For his final concert as Principal Conductor, Robin Ticciati turns to the last of Dvořák’s symphonies and also to Aaron Copland’s highly engaging Clarinet Concerto – commissioned by one of the great exponents of the clarinet playing at the time, Benny Goodman. Copland’s lyrical and melancholic first movement contrasts with the lively and jazzy finale, linked by a virtuosic cadenza exploring all the clarinet range and colours. A wonderful piece for a great season finale. Dates for your diary, 22nd March Edinburgh and 23rd Glasgow, 2018.
